Barry Kamen's first retrospective exhibition in Japan, ‘IS IS IT AND’, held at the Roof Gallery in Daikanyama, Tokyo, from Saturday 14 September to Monday 7 October 2024, displayed approximately 37 works from Barry's signature portrait series ‘IS IS IT’ to his later years. In addition to the original drawings, studies in sketchbooks, magazines related to Barry's fashion styling and video interviews with people involved were also on display, making this a valuable event. The exhibition was well received by visitors, who were able to see a wide range of Barry's diverse creative activities.

The preview, held prior to the public opening, was well attended by a large number of interested parties. Looking back on Barry's achievements, there were scenes of passionate discussions about fashion culture, and it was possible to sense the extent of the influence that Barry Kamen has had and still has.

The exhibition traced the history of Barry Kamen's creation from the early, middle and late periods. The exhibition was filled with a power that convinced me that Barry's outstanding expressiveness and imagination had once again impressed me and that he has continued to influence street culture at that time and to this day.

By viewing the original paintings up close, visitors were able to receive the bold brushstrokes and sensitive look at the subject matter that went into the style of his work. Giclee works were also displayed at the entrance to the gallery, and the high quality of the high-resolution scanned reproductions of the original drawings also attracted attention.
